On-Site Services
On-Site Services
At the orthopedic office of Jason Browdy, MD, we understand that your time is valuable. That’s why we conveniently provide a variety of services right here at our office, including on-site digital X-rays and ultrasound and on-site MRIs. The vast majority of surgical procedures Dr. Browdy performs can be done in the on-site surgery center.
The sooner you receive an accurate diagnosis, the sooner the appropriate treatment can begin, and the sooner you can get back to your usual routine.
Diagnostic Imaging
Dr. Browdy offers a variety of on-site diagnostic imaging services, including:
X-rays assist in identifying and treating fractures, and they are an essential tool when performing orthopedic surgery such as joint replacements or fracture reductions.
Dr. Browdy uses the latest high-tech digital X-ray equipment. There are a number of benefits of digital X-rays over traditional film X-rays, including:
- Digital images can be computer-enhanced. Larger, clearer, color-enhanced images can result in a more accurate diagnosis.
- More recent X-rays can be digitally compared to previous X-rays. By subtracting out everything that is the same and providing a clear image of anything that is different, tiny changes that may not be visible to the naked eye can be caught earlier.
- Patients are exposed to much less radiation (up to 90% less) than they are with traditional X-rays.
- Digital radiography is also better for the environment. It doesn’t use photochemicals and traditional film, thus eliminating waste.
Ultrasound is an excellent tool for diagnosing the cause of tendon and ligament pain. While we perform an ultrasound, you can point to where you’re hurting, and we can get a look at that exact area in real time as you’re moving and experiencing the pain.
Many times, a patient’s pain seems to have no clear cause, but diagnostic ultrasound allows us an in-depth look at injuries, detecting tiny tears that an MRI might miss.
There is no radiation involved with ultrasound, so it is safe for people with pacemakers, spinal cord stimulators, and other medical devices that cannot handle the radiation of other diagnostic tools.
MRI scanners use a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to create a detailed 3D image of internal tissue. MRIs are noninvasive and involve no radiation.
The high-resolution results of an MRI are ideal for identifying cartilage, muscle, or tendon injuries. MRIs are especially useful when planning a surgical procedure, such as a knee joint replacement.
Durable Medical Equipment
For your convenience, we offer a variety of braces, splints, and slings right here in our office. These immobilization devices are often used following surgery or to control pain associated with conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, and fractures. After your evaluation with Dr. Browdy, you will be properly fitted with the equipment that best protects you from additional injury. We can also have a brace or splint custom-made for you.
Pain Management Therapies
Dr. Browdy offers a variety of on-site pain management therapies, including:
Injectable cortisone is a powerful anti-inflammatory medication. It is a synthetically produced steroid that lasts for a longer period of time than the cortisone your body naturally produces. It is injected directly into joints such as shoulders, elbows, wrists, knees, and ankles to decrease inflammation, which can also alleviate pain associated with the joint. Cortisone injections usually work within a few days, and the effects can last up to several weeks.
Using ultrasound, Dr. Browdy and his staff can administer medications to painful joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Ultrasound guidance can help deliver targeted treatment directly to the site of pain, improving the precision, safety, and effectiveness of the medication being delivered.
Viscosupplementation therapy is an appropriate treatment for people with knee arthritis that has failed to respond to more conservative therapy. During the procedure, a solution of hyaluronic acid is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. It is useful for people who are trying to delay surgery or who are not candidates for knee replacement surgery.
Viscosupplementation injections are typically given weekly for 3 or 4 weeks. They can reduce pain, improve mobility, and enable a higher and more comfortable level of physical activity.
